The author Dr. Harold Stromeyer holds a law degree (Zürich, 1982), a Masters of Public International Law (LLM London, 1987) and a Doctorate in War Studies (London, 1994).
As an ICRC Delegate in War Situations
He worked as Delegate for the International Red Cross (ICRC), Geneva in Africa and Asia. As a neutral mediator and a spokesman of the victims, he learned how to conduct the humanitarian work successfully in war situations. His book “Hilfe mit Herz” is the outcome of this rich humanitarian work experience.
China Researcher and Author
With his first China visit in 1979, he discovered his interest and fascination with this old culture. Since 1993 until today, this fascination remained unchanged and he has successfully increased his insight and knowledge of China.
His working experience as a lecturer at Dalian University and as a travel guide in over 20 Chinese provinces has given Dr. Stromeyer an important insight into daily life in China and the beauty of the country’s touristic attractions.
Through his translations (from Chinese into English) of the two treaties on the Diplomatic Relations (Vienna Convention, 1961) and on the Law of Treaties (Vienna Convention, 1969), Dr. Stromeyer learned to understand the Chinese interpretation of this important Vienna Conventions.
The author has studied the Chinese language and is a fascinating student of Chinese tea culture. He translated the book on the history of Chinese Tea Culture. Also his passion for Chinese art is shown in his drawings (GONGBI style).
Dr. Stromeyer has translated, with a new interpretation, the oldest book of the Chinese culture, the DAODEJING by LAOZI from Chinese into English and into German. He has attempted a holistic view in his book “China Verstehen” (“Understanding China”) published in German language.
